If you are looking for a fun and laid back engagement photographer Brisbane then you have found your man! Here at A Thousand Miles Photography we love engagement photography! We love watching your journey from a couple to being engaged to being married and we can capture your most important of life journeys without hassle or headaches!

Jarod arranged his Brisbane engagement shoot over the phone with me and was laid back, funny and open to suggestions! With our 2-hour engagement shoot, we can cover several locations and outfit changes and we decided on New Farm Park (one of my favourite engagement photography locations in Brisbane!) and Kangaroo Point cliffs!

As an engagement photographer Brisbane I feel that New Farm Park has an amazing variety of photo locations and backdrops – from the urban chic of the Powerhouse to the natural wonders of the trees and greenery, to the Brisbane River and Brisbane City backdrop.

We started at the Powerhouse and got some beautiful couples photographs, before heading to the big tree where we recreated the engagement!

The roses were in bloom which I love to use as a foreground with Brisbane city in the background. Once we had used up all of New Farm Parks backdrops we headed to Kangaroo Point cliffs where we braved the stairs of death and headed to the river for some amazing city photos!

We have some amazing engagement photography options which you can see on our Engagement Photography page!

Boulevard Gardens Wedding

boulevard gardens

I have photographed at Boulevard gardens many times and every wedding I have photographed there is different! The garden space is a fantastic location for an intimate wedding and the arched arbour is a stunning backdrop for any wedding ceremony.

Boulevard Gardens is superbly located in Indooroopilly, near the Brisbane River.

Allie and Michael chose Boulevard Gardens for the location of their wedding in April 2022, and it truly was the perfect day! I started with some shots of the groom, Michael, getting ready at Kangaroo Point. The atmosphere was very laid back and a lot of fun!

Michael arrived at Boulevard gardens in style! Several guests were already on site, as was Bronwyn Saleh, easily one of my favourite celebrants to work with! Bronwyn is very warm and laid back and makes the ceremony all about the couple. Nothing is ever too much for Bronwyn and I always do a happy dance when we work together! You can check out Bronwyn’s website below!

The ceremony was amazing and saw a switch between clouds and sun. There were tears and laughter and a lot of emotion. Just how a wedding ceremony should be!

boulevard gardens

After the ceremony we stayed for some family photos in front of Boulevard Gardens’ pagola, and stayed for some bridal party photographs

Boulevard Gardens is a short drive Mt Coot_tha Botanic Gardens, one of my favourite locations in Brisbane for wedding photography. We had a bit of rain, which meant using some colourful umbrellas, and the bridal party had been prepared with snacks and an esky!

After a brief stop at Wilson’s Outlook for some bride and groom photos we headed to Kangaroo Point for the reception, where I witnessed one of the funniest wedding speeches ever, thanks to Michael’s Dad!

Ocean View Estates Wedding Photography

Here at A Thousand Miles Photography, we love Ocean View Wedding Photography! It is such an amazing venue with so many beautiful photography locations! Add in a gorgeous couple, a fun wedding party, perfect weather and you have a wedding day like no other!

The day started with Shannon, the bride, and her ‘Bride Tribe’ in the Winemakers Cottage. Often at the start of a wedding day, the atmosphere can feel quite tense, but not here, not today! Everyone was very laid back and having fun! It’s the best way to be!

After a few hair and make up shots, Connor took me (the long way!) to see the Groom, Fergus, and his boys.

There is always more to photograph with the bride and her entourage (no offence boys!) so I headed back to see Shannon for the dress and final touch up shots!

I always love the pace of the getting ready photos; it’s like the calm before the storm of the ceremony and family photos! But a wedding day wouldn’t be a wedding day without a ceremony so I headed down to Ocean View Estate’s lakeside pagola, where the guests and the boys were waiting!

Wedding Photographer

Happily (for me!) Fergus shed a tear or ten, and Shannon beamed the whole way through the ceremony. Whenever there are kids involved, I, too, tend to shed a tear or two, and it was no different today when Connor handed over the rings.

The weather and the light was perfect, so after a few family photos and a fun group shot (helped immeasurably by Sam of I am Celebrant Sam – https://www.facebook.com/iamcelebrantsam), we headed to Ocean View Estates secret area for some amazing bridal party photos!

It’s no secret that the bridal party wedding photos are my favourite part of the day! The earlier parts of the day can be quite tense at times but once the ceremony has finished, everyone relaxes, and I get to be creative and have a laugh in the process!

And then from the outdoors to the indoors! The wedding reception is where the party kicks in and everyone can finally relax! Ocean View Estates has an amazing reception room, with old vines on the walls, and a great space for guests to relax and have fun!

I am always big on details at a wedding reception and love capturing all of those little pieces of importance that may be forgotten in 20 years!

And so to the festivities! No wedding reception is complete without speeches, a cake cutting and a first dance!

And once the party ramped up and the dancing began, I headed home down the mountain, having had an amazing day once again and remembering why I adore my job!

Elopement Photography

Elopment Photoshoot Brisbane

Elopement weddings are becoming an increasingly popular way for couples to say ‘I do’! Happily we specialise in elopement photography and elopement wedding photography!

D & G were one couple who made their wedding vows in the most personal way possible! Alone! Technically speaking you will always need a minimum of 5 people at a wedding (the couple, a celebrant, and 2 witnesses) but I am always happy to be a witness and to sign the paperwork for you! As I did this day!

We headed to New Farm park for D&G’s elopement wedding, where we met our celebrant and her husband – the 2nd witness! The vows were beautiful and intimate and were said by the flower arbours in the park gardens.

Elopement Photographer Brisbane

Following a beautiful and personal ceremony, we stayed in the park for some photos of the newlyweds. New Farm park is one of my favourite spots in Brisbane for elopement photography as there are heaps of amazing spots and backdrops for photos. We started by the arbour then headed to the Powerhouse for some urban chic!

It helped that it was a beautiful day and that we were there late in the afternoon when the sun is low and at its best. We call that the golden hour and makes the couple and the landscape glow!

If you are looking for elopement photography and elopement wedding photography packages, we would love to help! We photograph weddings 7 days a week and have a 2-hour weekend elopement photography package for $890, which includes your edited high resolution images and a chat beforehand to go through the plans!

We also have a midweek (Monday – Thursday) quickie option. A 1-hour midweek elopement is just $499.00!! For more information check out our wedding photography packages or feel free to contact us!

Congratulations on locking in a date and the best of luck with your elopement wedding plans! We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Being a wedding photographer is fantastic: you get to meet a lot of fun and amazing people, and you get to spend the happiest day of people’s lives with them! How cool is that?!

IMG_0017x IMG_0023x

Siobhan and Sandeep’s wedding on Mount Tamborine was particularly awesome: the guys are such amazing, laid back people and were so welcoming. They are clearly profoundly in love (yes folks there were tears!) and they both looked amazing! That day, being a wedding photographer on Mount Tamborine was a fun thing to be!

After a few family photos, I dragged Siobhan and Sandeep into the heart of the gardens for some bride and groom wedding photos – and didn’t they do well! They were both an absolute pleasure to photograph and made it so much fun! It helped that they are both amazing looking people and that the camera loved them both! The gardens did us proud too and looked fantastic, and with so many places to choose from, it’s a great spot for wedding photography.

There was nothing about this incredible wedding at Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens that I didn’t adore! I had known Megan and Brandon for a while and knew them to be amazingly friendly and welcoming people, so I knew there would be no dramas on the day. And this magical wedding day went off  perfectly! One of the good things about Bundaleer is that you can often use the house behind the property to get ready. Its proximity and amazing light makes an ideal spot for wedding photos!

Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens has some amazing areas for photos and there is no shortage of stunning backdrops. Kangaroo Point Wedding Photos: Lejla & Ares

Kangaroo Point Wedding Photography: Lejla and Ares

Location: Kangaroo Point

Date: 3rd January 2017

You might recognise Lejla and Ares from a previous post – I was lucky enough to photograph their engagement shoot last year! Happily they invited me back to photograph their Kangaroo Point wedding in January and I was ecstatic that they did! The guys are so easy to work with and so laid back; and yeah – they make my job easy by being very comfortable in front of the camera!

We met at the top of the cliffs and headed straight to the bottom to photograph at one of my favourite places in Brisbane – the little peninsular of rock that juts out into the Brisbane River and rewards the eager wedding photographer with an amazing city backdrop.

We had a great day for wedding photography; slightly overcast but nice and light.

We had an easy wander down river towards the city, stopping for photos and chatting. We ended up at the awesome white wooden pagolas that stick out into the river – another amazing spot for wedding photos. Kangaroo Point is an awesome location for bridal photography as there are so many options and such incredible backdrops. There’s the option of urban wedding photos, rural wedding photos, and rustic wedding photos, so we had a very easy run that day!

And of course it helped that Lejla and Ares were so confident in front of the camera and were so ready to laugh!

We then headed south back towards the cliffs, grabbing some photos amongst the trees and then climbing the ramp back to the top of the cliffs for some great pics in the rotunda. How amazing does Lejla look in her dress with the city through the window?!

I love Kangaroo Point wedding photos; there is such an amazing variety and such an incredible backdrop! I can’t wait to get back there again soon!

And I mst apologise for the long post – I couldn’t decide which Kangaroo Point wedding photos to prioritise! I love them all! Enjoy! And congratulations to Lejla and Ares for an amazing wedding and a fantastic Kangaroo Point Wedding Photography session!

Hey Andy!

we’ve just received the photos and my god do they look incredible!! thank you so much for photographing our day on such short notice and for once again blowing our minds!! we are in love with the photos!

good luck to you in the future, hopefully we meet again some day!

Wedding photos are (in my completely biased opinion!) probably the most important thing that a bride and groom will take from their wedding. Memories do unfortunately fade over the years but photographs last forever. That’s why having a comprehensive reminder of your day is always a wise investment! In the grand scheme of things your photos will be a small cost compared to what you get in return!

brisbane wedding photographer        wedding photographer        wedding photography brisbane

Plus wedding photos are fun! You get to look back and relive the warm and fuzzies from the most important day of your life! So many people say to me that the day flew by way too fast and that having a fantastic collection of wedding photos helps to piece the day together, and also helps to plug the gaps that the bride and groom missed!

wedding photography brisbane wedding photographers

Having a good scope of your day – from getting ready shots right through to the reception – is a great way to keep these memories, and venues like Topiaries are perfect for this! Topiaries is a self-contained venue that allows the bride and groom to get ready on site, to get married in their garden area or chapel, and to party the night away in their reception hall. The grounds are also beautiful meaning you needn’t leave for your bridal party photographs!

gold coast wedding photography wedding photo

Several weeks ago, I was privileged to photograph Juliette and Tony’s perfect day which was held at Topiaries, and I arrived to find the girls in a flurry of activity! Quick hint – if you know what time the photographer is due to arrive, make sure you aren’t having your hair or make up done then. You will be picked on! Poor Skye, Juliette’s maid of honour, had the short straw this day and suffered my camera lens from the moment I arrived! But it was soon Juliette’s turn, which she didn’t seem to mind at all. She had also very thoughtfully hung her dress from the chandeliers of the beautifully decorated room, which made for a fantastic backdrop to her photos!

brisbane wedding photography wedding pictures

Generally I will try and make myself as inconspicuous as possible when I’m photographing the bridal party getting ready, preferring instead to capture things as they happen in a more candid and photo-journalistic style. This makes the bridesmaids feel more relaxed before the main event and allows everyone to concentrate on looking beautiful rather than being forced to pose!

Quite often the boys will be a little reluctant to have their photos taken but it is always a nice mix to get some shots of the boys too. It also makes for a convenient break to allow the girls a few moments of modesty to get in their dresses! Tony’s groomsmen were a great laugh and helped him feel relaxed. Mocking my accent, they called me ‘undies’ for the rest of the day! Cheers, guys! Tony helped get Juliette’s son Slade get dressed and into his bow tie and then dressed himself as his groomsmen struggled tying their ties!

IMG_3093xFor a wedding photographer, it is very important to capture the details of the wedding day – the shoes, flowers, jewellery and clothes. It is these little details that will have been pored over for days if not weeks, and these details are just as important as photos of the guests. I always meet with the bride and groom prior to the big day to discuss the type of wedding photos they are looking for – no point in photographing details if they aren’t wanted at the cost of missing photographs of things that are! I always send through a shot list for this precise reason – add it to the list and I will know to take it! I always encourage sending example shots through for this very same reason!

And then suddenly it was action stations! As the boys headed outside to the ceremony area, Tony started to look a little nervous! The boys lined up in the pagola as the girls filtered outside. Then the bridal song started. It was time to get these guys married!

One photo I will always capture is the look on the groom’s face the moment he sees his wife start to walk down the aisle. To me it is one of the most important photos of the day, and in truth you can never pick what the reaction might be! Sometimes even the toughest blokes will shed a tear, and it’s always fun finding out!

Tony looked delighted at seeing Juliette for the first time that day, but he still managed to keep it together for one very important part of the ceremony. Juliette’s family are originally from Zimbabwe, where traditionally the groom will give the father-in-law a dowry of cattle for his daughter’s hand in marriage. To everyone’s great surprise Tony produced two head of cattle as he shook his father-in-law’s hand. OK, they were plastic and about 5cm high but it was still a very moo-ving moment – one that was legen-dairy. Sorry, I cud have left that bit out. OK, that’s enough cow jokes, there’ll be no udders…. Sorry.

Juliette and Tony’s ceremony was officiated beautifully by Sally Corfield (www.sallycorfield.com.au) who gave a brief history of the bridal couple before launching into the good stuff!

professional wedding photographer professional wedding photography

Sally focussed on the couple – the way a wedding ceremony should do – and told us how and where they met, their likes, dislikes and foibles and the moment they realised that they had fallen in love. To Juliette her kids are her life and it was the moment that Tony said that he loved them that she fell helplessly for him – as a Dad I can understand this sentiment completely!

People often say to me that it must be a lot of pressure being a wedding photographer, that you have a very important job to do and can’t afford to mess up. It can be but it doesn’t faze me at all; but I always think the same about the celebrant – they really do have the most important job on the day and without them the wedding simply can’t take place! Happily, Sally was an amazing professional and the ceremony was flawless!

Juliette’s son and daughter – who looked absolutely adorable! – were prominent in the ceremony; her son Slade had the biggest job of the ceremony as ring bearer, which he accomplished expertly! The vows were heart-warming and spoken perfectly, and then with the signing and the kiss Juliette and Tony were married! Congratulations you beautiful people!

And then it was time for the bridal party photos and happily Topiaries has a wealth of locations for great shots. We started at the viewpoint which has amazing vistas over Samford Valley. Then as the sun set on a perfect day we headed back into Topiaries for the party! I photographed the empty reception room as everyone had drinks on the deck, which allowed the bridal party to chill out for a while and grab a drink too! Juliette and Tony had decided to have their first dance early on (to get it out of the way?!) and strutted their stuff before officially entering the room! They did a very good job too!

The speeches followed which were equally heart felt and homourous and we saw both tears and laughter – always the sign of a good speech! The room looked spectacular and the cake divine, and Juliette and Tony very graciously arranged a meal for me which I have to say was one of the best I have had in a very long time! Hats off to the Topiaries staff too who were efficient and polite and made my job a lot easier!

Beth and Jason’s Old Petrie Town Wedding

Old Petrie Town Wedding: Beth and Jason’s Perfect Day:

Date: 5th March 2016

Location: Old Petrie Town, Brisbane

Old Petrie Town is one of those places I had been trying to get to for some time but never seemed to make it. If you have never been: go! It’s amazing! Add a perfect wedding day in there and it’s even better!

Jason contacted me a few months prior to his big day asking if I was free to photograph his wedding – I was, so we arranged to catch up at Old Petrie Town for a chat about his plans and to scope out some photo locations. Happily Old Petrie Town is one of those places that looks good regardless of where you point your camera so we weren’t spoilt for choice, and there’s even plenty of spots to photograph should there be rain on the big day!

Fast forward a few months and I was back at Old Petrie Town for real! And it looked amazing! I arrived over an hour early as I usually do when I am photographing a wedding (you never know what the traffic’s going to be like, and it’s always good to check the place isn’t underwater!) and went for a wander. I had only met Beth a few days prior to the wedding as she had been away when I met Jason at the venue, but both bride and groom had been very laid back in the few months counting down to the wedding, as Jason was on his big day when he arrived with his dashing groomsmen!

The location for the ceremony was impeccable – beneath and in front of a gorgeous centuries-old fig tree. What an amazing backdrop! I snapped people arriving and taking their seats and the groomsmen looking nervous and anxious. I love the build up to the ceremony – the anticipation and nervous tension before the bride’s arrival! And even laid back Jason looked a little bit nervous!

But he needn’t have: Beth arrived on time looking stunning and her bridesmaids looked amazing in their matching blue and red dresses and bright red shoes! I took a few snaps of Beth’s Dad lowering the veil: I had been given the heads up that Dad was odds on favourite to shed a few tears on the day and he did; good on him!

And then there was quiet…and the aisle song started. Jason’s face as he saw his bride for the first time was priceless – and Beth couldn’t have looked any happier seeing her man waiting at the end of the aisle. Her dad did shed a few tears too!

The ceremony started with a prayer – during which I caught Beth’s Mum having a sneaky peek at her daughter. Sometimes the best shots are the spontaneous ones!

And for me, this wedding was the wedding of sneaky peeks and lingering glimpses! Check out these photos and the look of love on everyone’s faces! I love these shots – totally spontaneous, not posed or rehearsed, just genuine emotion!

Following a perfect reading of the vows the guys exchanged wedding rings (they fit!) and then came the part everyone was waiting for: the kiss! We headed to a table for the signing and a few more shots and then it was official: here is Australia’s newest couple! Congratulations guys!

Jason and Beth brought along their fur baby along for support – cute! – and he didn’t miss out on a photo opportunity! Then it was time for the hardest shot of the day: the group shot! Happily everyone behaved and using the fig tree as a backdrop we got some fantastic shots!

brisbane wedding photographer

Jason and Beth had warned me the week prior to their wedding that posing for photos was not their favourite thing! No problems at all – I let the guys be themselves and picked on the bridal party instead who happily didn’t mind the camera one little bit!

Old Petrie Town is filled with amazing rustic barns and outhouses that make for incredible wedding photography backdrops. I could have spent all afternoon there! We did some fun shots, a few posed shots, some relaxed shots and some moody shots with no complaints or tantrums!! Time does indeed fly when you’re having fun!

One of my favourite parts of the day was when Beth asked if we had done all of the ‘nice’ photos. Sure, I replied, why? The bridesmaids all ripped off their high heels and brought out some comfy bright red pumps for the rest of the afternoon! Outstanding!

The sky had been darkening for a short while and it did eventually rain – but I say this honestly: rain is not a bad thing! First of all rain is meant to be lucky, secondly an umbrella makes for an amazing prop and forces you to snuggle up to your new spouse, and thirdly: rain means rainbows! I don’t think I have ever seen anyone as excited as these guys to have a rainbow in their photos!

newborn baby photos photographer

I used the rain as an opportunity to grab some shots of Jason and Beth sharing an umbrella and we headed towards the other end of Old Petrie Town, to the old train station: probably my favourite part! The rain eased off so we got some nice shots of the groomsmen and bridesmaids then I took off the pace and let Jason and Beth relax and be themselves. That didn’t mean I stopped shooting! I was just a little more inconspicuous about it!

But all good things must come to an end and I finally let the guys chill out and have a few drinks before the start of the reception, which was on site at the upstairs function room of the Heritage Hotel. I headed in first to grab some shots of the table settings and decorations, and a quick portrait of each of the guests.

Gold Coast Wedding: Jac and Mat’s Hinterland Marriage

gold coast wedding photographer

Gold Coast Wedding: Jac and Mat’s Amazing Hinterland Marriage!:

Date: 31st October 2015

Location: A Private Property on Pocket Road, Numinbah Valley, Gold Coast Hinterland

wedding photographer wedding photography

One of the best things about being a wedding photographer in South East Queensland is the variety of venues you get to visit. Some are rural, some urban, and some are in between. Jac and Mat’s wedding location was very much the former! I like to think I know the Gold Coast hinterland pretty well, but the private property on which Jac and Mat got married took some finding! Jac’s directions simply stated: “Drive along Pocket Rd and stop when you see a cow shaped letter box….!” Oooooo Kaaaayy! As it happened it was surprisingly easy to find, and what a spot! I fell in love with it instantly – a beautifully undulating block of land with a copse of trees blocking the road and backed by gorgeous mountains. Add a lake, a beautiful wooden home and an awesome level area and gazebo (ideal for a wedding ceremony…), and you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal for a country wedding!

gold coast photographer wedding photography

Fast forward to the wedding day and the weather was perfect: clear, warm and sunny. The guys had been busy and had erected a marquee for their reception and had thrown up a mini city of tents for friends and family! And the gents toilets? Stacked bales of hay! The area was a hive of activity of decorating, tweaking and finalising, so to avoid being thrown up a ladder to hang lanterns, I headed to the house to photograph the girls getting ready!

The hair and make up guys worked their magic as Jac and her bridesmaids sipped champagne; and what a great job they did! The girls looked amazing, and judging by the relaxed atmosphere that prevailed, they did it effortlessly and without any stress or meltdowns!

I snap away furiously as the bridesmaids are getting their hair and make-up done, then for modesty reasons, I disappear to photograph the ‘still life’ aspects of the day – the perfume, flowers, shoes and (unless the boys are trustworthy!) the rings – as the bride hops into her dress.

brisbane wedding photographersMat was far too laid back to get photos of the boys getting ready – plus he was far too busy decorating and fine tuning the reception marquee anyway! In order to make sure he didn’t miss out completely, I grabbed a few more photos of Jac by herself around the homestead and then headed to the ceremony area to grab some candid shots of the boys looking nervous (and drinking beer!) as the guests arrived and mingled. One of my personal favourite moments of the day was when Sonny – Jac and Mat’s beautifully natured fur baby – turned up in matching cuffs and ‘shirt’ and with a GoPro attached to his collar!

And all of a sudden it was action stations! Sarah Alexander (www.sarahmayalexander.com.au/) flawlessly officiated and kept the laid back feeling to the day. In another unique twist, the girls drove themselves in Jac’s elaborately decorated/vandalised car to the top of the paddock and walked down to the pagola together, smiling and laughing and truly loving the occasion. The look on Mat’s face when he saw his bride-to-be was priceless:)

This was the second wedding I have photographed with Sarah officiating and she always does a great job of keeping the ceremony about the couple. We heard how Jac and Mat met and how they share a mutual love of travel (when I emailed Jac a few weeks after the wedding to let her know her wedding photos were ready, she replied to say they were just boarding a cruise ship in the Caribbean and would be heading to Mexico after that! Jealous? Yeah!) The ceremony couldn’t have been more ‘Jac and Mat’ – informal, fun and full of love!

Following the ceremony, I always allow a good 10 – 15 minutes of spontaneous congratulations – we will often capture some of the best moments of the day at this point, with expressions of joy, tears and laughter. I follow this with a group shot and photos with the family; after all, when does everyone look this good?!

And then its the photographers favourite part of the day – the Bridal Party Photos! After the suspense and build up of the ceremony, this tends to be the most relaxed part of the day: friends having fun, having a drink, and allowing someone to capture it all. I generally mix in a handful of posed shots with some spontaneous, casual moments and just let the guys be themselves. Sonny joined us of course and we headed to the creek behind the pagoda for some posed shots before heading into one of the paddocks for some more casual photos.

We left the guests to the canapes and drinks and headed back to the lake and homestead, grabbing a few fun shots in the tree house and on the jetty, then headed back to where it all began on the deck where a bottle of very old and very expensive rum materialised and the guys simply forgot I was there and enjoyed the afternoon.

At 6pm, I left the guys to enjoy their drinks and headed to the marquee area where I found the Mexican themed reception in very full swing! Being a self catering venue meant that all drinks were free pour, including the tequila! Happily it was an amazingly clear day so everyone relaxed outdoors on mats, plucking beers from a cooler and laughing harder than just about any wedding reception I’ve ever attended! As the sun dropped, the fires were lit and the party continued into the night.

As dusk settled, the bridal party made their enthusiastic entrance carrying personalised bottles of champagne and dived straight into the party! I asked Mat if self catering had saved them any money. Nah, he reckoned, but it did mean people could drink more! Catering came from a Siguenos taco truck (www.siguenos.com.au) – an amazing idea (great food, no cooking, no clear up, no mess!) which allowed everyone to feast under the stars!
