Best Wedding Photographer Brisbane

best wedding photographer brisbane

To capture your most incredible of days, you want the best wedding photographer Brisbane for the job! Andy Williams of A Thousand Miles Photography is your man! I truly adore what I do for a living and have never once taken my job for granted! It is an absolute pleasure being present for your most magical of days and the best wedding photographer Brisbane will do you proud!

I was lucky to be invited to photograph Ruth and Tony’s amazing St Mary’s Anglican Church wedding at Kangaroo Point in January, and what a day it was! As always, I arrived early to capture the ‘nervous tension’ phase of the day, where the groom checks his watch, and there’s a buzz of excitement as the guests arrive! St Mary’s Anglican at kangaroo Point is a gorgeous church and incredibly photogenic, and with amazing views back towards Brisbane and over the Brisbane River, it is always one of my favourite wedding venues.

St Mary’s also has a fantastic lawn area for post-ceremony drinks and canapes. We hovered for an hour or so to grab a group photo and plenty of family photos against the brickwork of the church before heading to Kangaroo Point cliffs for bride and groom photos.

The wedding reception was at Nota Restaurant at Paddington, and I had been a bit nervous about getting there as some guy called Elton John was playing at the Suncorp Stadium, but the traffic was managed surprisingly well and we even had time for some urban chic photos around Paddington’s backstreets.

I had never been to Nota before but it is a gorgeous place with fantastic staff and great decor, and an awesome location for a wedding function!

I love being a Gold Coast wedding photographer! Maybe it’s because I’m from the UK where you never get the chance to photograph beach weddings, but there’s something about being on the beach that makes me smile!

And this wedding was unique in so much that there wasn’t a wedding happening! David and his beautiful bride were married in Japan and came to the Gold Coast for some beautiful beach wedding photos and I was more than happy to oblige!

We chose the area around Main Beach as it is rarely busy, and being a Monday it was even less so. There is also a beautiful rainforest area between the road and the beach which gives a more diverse option for photos! We started there and got some fantastic shots of the guys in their finery and then headed to the beach itself for some more open shots.

It wasn’t the brightest, sunniest day ever, and we had a bit of rain too, but an overcast sky means less shadows, squinting and harsh contrasts so I was doing a little happy dance as I headed down there! Of course rain means rainbows – which we were rewarded with – and umbrella shots always look intimate and cosy.

Being a wedding photographer is fantastic: you get to meet a lot of fun and amazing people, and you get to spend the happiest day of people’s lives with them! How cool is that?!

IMG_0017x IMG_0023x

Siobhan and Sandeep’s wedding on Mount Tamborine was particularly awesome: the guys are such amazing, laid back people and were so welcoming. They are clearly profoundly in love (yes folks there were tears!) and they both looked amazing! That day, being a wedding photographer on Mount Tamborine was a fun thing to be!

The ceremony and bridal party photos were both at Mount Tamborine Botanic Gardens, an amazing place for wedding photos! The weather was gorgeous and it was beautifully warm for late May, meaning we had no hinderences for a perfect wedding photography session!

After a few family photos, I dragged Siobhan and Sandeep into the heart of the gardens for some bride and groom wedding photos – and didn’t they do well! They were both an absolute pleasure to photograph and made it so much fun! It helped that they are both amazing looking people and that the camera loved them both! The gardens did us proud too and looked fantastic, and with so many places to choose from, it’s a great spot for wedding photography.

There was nothing about this incredible wedding at Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens that I didn’t adore! I had known Megan and Brandon for a while and knew them to be amazingly friendly and welcoming people, so I knew there would be no dramas on the day. And this magical wedding day went off  perfectly! One of the good things about Bundaleer is that you can often use the house behind the property to get ready. Its proximity and amazing light makes an ideal spot for wedding photos!

Following the family photos, it was time for a wedding photographer’s favourite part of the day! The Bridal Party photos! Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens has some amazing areas for photos and there is no shortage of stunning backdrops. Gold Coast Hinterland Wedding Photography:

Location: A Private Property on Pocket Road, Numinbah Valley, Gold Coast Hinterland

wedding photographer wedding photography

One of the best things about being a Gold Coast hinterland wedding photographer  is the variety of venues you get to visit. Some are rural, some urban, and some are in between. Jac and Mat’s wedding location was very much the former! I like to think I know the Gold Coast hinterland pretty well, but the private property on which Jac and Mat got married took some finding! Jac’s directions simply stated: “Drive along Pocket Rd and stop when you see a cow shaped letter box….!” Oooooo Kaaaayy! As it happened it was surprisingly easy to find, and what a spot! I fell in love with it instantly – a beautifully undulating block of land with a copse of trees blocking the road and backed by gorgeous mountains. Add a lake, a beautiful wooden home and an awesome level area and gazebo (ideal for a wedding ceremony…), and you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal for a country wedding!

gold coast photographer wedding photography

Fast forward to the wedding day and the weather was perfect: clear, warm and sunny. The guys had been busy and had erected a marquee for their reception and had thrown up a mini city of tents for friends and family! And the gents toilets? Stacked bales of hay! The area was a hive of activity of decorating, tweaking and finalising, so to avoid being thrown up a ladder to hang lanterns, I headed to the house to photograph the girls getting ready!

wedding photographer brisbane wedding photographer

The hair and make up guys worked their magic as Jac and her bridesmaids sipped champagne; and what a great job they did! The girls looked amazing, and judging by the relaxed atmosphere that prevailed, they did it effortlessly and without any stress or meltdowns!

I snap away furiously as the bridesmaids are getting their hair and make-up done, then for modesty reasons, I disappear to photograph the ‘still life’ aspects of the day – the perfume, flowers, shoes and (unless the boys are trustworthy!) the rings – as the bride hops into her dress.

brisbane wedding photographersMat was far too laid back to get photos of the boys getting ready – plus he was far too busy decorating and fine tuning the reception marquee anyway! In order to make sure he didn’t miss out completely, I grabbed a few more photos of Jac by herself around the homestead and then headed to the ceremony area to grab some candid shots of the boys looking nervous (and drinking beer!) as the guests arrived and mingled. One of my personal favourite moments of the day was when Sonny – Jac and Mat’s beautifully natured fur baby – turned up in matching cuffs and ‘shirt’ and with a GoPro attached to his collar!

And all of a sudden it was action stations! Sarah Alexander (www.sarahmayalexander.com.au/) flawlessly officiated and kept the laid back feeling to the day. In another unique twist, the girls drove themselves in Jac’s elaborately decorated/vandalised car to the top of the paddock and walked down to the pagola together, smiling and laughing and truly loving the occasion. The look on Mat’s face when he saw his bride-to-be was priceless:)

This was the second wedding I have photographed with Sarah officiating and she always does a great job of keeping the ceremony about the couple. We heard how Jac and Mat met and how they share a mutual love of travel (when I emailed Jac a few weeks after the wedding to let her know her wedding photos were ready, she replied to say they were just boarding a cruise ship in the Caribbean and would be heading to Mexico after that! Jealous? Yeah!) The ceremony couldn’t have been more ‘Jac and Mat’ – informal, fun and full of love!

And then with a kiss, it was official! Australia’s newest (and happiest!) couple were now wed!

Following the ceremony, I always allow a good 10 – 15 minutes of spontaneous congratulations – we will often capture some of the best moments of the day at this point, with expressions of joy, tears and laughter. I follow this with a group shot and photos with the family; after all, when does everyone look this good?!

cheap wedding photographer brisbane inexpensive wedding photography

And then its the photographers favourite part of the day – the Bridal Party Photos! After the suspense and build up of the ceremony, this tends to be the most relaxed part of the day: friends having fun, having a drink, and allowing someone to capture it all. I generally mix in a handful of posed shots with some spontaneous, casual moments and just let the guys be themselves. Sonny joined us of course and we headed to the creek behind the pagoda for some posed shots before heading into one of the paddocks for some more casual photos.

We left the guests to the canapes and drinks and headed back to the lake and homestead, grabbing a few fun shots in the tree house and on the jetty, then headed back to where it all began on the deck where a bottle of very old and very expensive rum materialised and the guys simply forgot I was there and enjoyed the afternoon.

At 6pm, I left the guys to enjoy their drinks and headed to the marquee area where I found the Mexican themed reception in very full swing! Being a self catering venue meant that all drinks were free pour, including the tequila! Happily it was an amazingly clear day so everyone relaxed outdoors on mats, plucking beers from a cooler and laughing harder than just about any wedding reception I’ve ever attended! As the sun dropped, the fires were lit and the party continued into the night.

As dusk settled, the bridal party made their enthusiastic entrance carrying personalised bottles of champagne and dived straight into the party! I asked Mat if self catering had saved them any money. Nah, he reckoned, but it did mean people could drink more! Catering came from a Siguenos taco truck (www.siguenos.com.au) – an amazing idea (great food, no cooking, no clear up, no mess!) which allowed everyone to feast under the stars!

Garden’s Club Wedding:

Wedding photography brisbane

I love Brisbane Gardens Club wedding photography. I have lived in Brisbane nearly 20 years and I still marvel at how beautiful she looks on a warm summer’s day! December the 18th was one such day: the sun was shining, it was warm, and there were a few scattered clouds to keep the sun at bay. A perfect day for a Brisbane wedding, and perfect conditions for Garden’s Club wedding photography!

I first met Cara and Roland two days prior to their big day (they both live in Perth but wanted a Brisbane wedding as this is where their family is located.) We were instantly on the same page as to the type of photography they were looking for and their wedding style: classical elegance. We worked out a timeline, and took time to just chat and get to know each other. This makes relaxing easier on the big day!

Fast forward two days and the sun was out and the Garden’s Club was filling with guests. I arrived early and grabbed a few shots of Roland looking nervous as the guests chatted and mingled. At precisely 11am, Cara arrived in her bridal car looking stunning.

The ceremony is the part of the wedding day that flies past the quickest! Without doubt the comment I hear most after the wedding is “It all went so fast!” Happily the photographer is there to capture the details, the smiles and the memories.

Roland is of German heritage, and as such some readings (and part of Cara’s vows) were in Deutsch, which added a personal touch to the occasion. The ceremony was conducted in English (by Elke Howard from Ceremonial Moments) so I was able to follow the proceedings of this beautiful Brisbane wedding!

After a few readings, including one in German by Roland’s sister Anne, came everyone’s favourite part of the ceremony: the kiss! It is the build-up to years of a relationship, and the first public expression of love the couple can show on their big day.

Following the kiss comes the formal part of the ceremony with the signing of the register and the certificate, and then the official declaration of marriage! Congratulations Mr & Mrs Treiber; you are now husband and wife!

Following a fun group shot, I grabbed some shots of the newly weds with their families. Happily, Cara had made this easy with a concise and detailed shot list (oh, how I love shot lists!) This also meant we had more time to head into Brisbane Botanic gardens for some beautiful formal shots of the couple.

And what’s a wedding without a celebration?! Following our formal wedding photos in the Botanic gardens’s, we headed back to the Garden’s Cafe for the reception. The cafe was closed to the public for the reception, which kept the event intimate and personal, and the staff had done an amazing job of decorating the venue. The restaurant area was open and light (great for wedding photography!) and the tables close enough to remain personable without being crowded!

It’s capturing the details that I love most about wedding photography. These small things may be forgotten in a few years, but they would have made your day so unique. During any wedding reception, I use meal time to grab the details: the cake, the flowers, the menu and the decorations. It is usually these photos that get the most comments – these small things make the wedding!

And with any wedding celebration there are beautiful moments: cake cutting, speeches and the first dance. The cake was a traditional German cake, and looked amazing next to the wedding flowers. The guys also took the time to pose for a few more photos during the reception. Poor things!
