Maybe it’s because I am a Dad of two beautiful kids, but I love a newborn photo shoot! Newborn babies make for such gorgeous photography subjects, especially when an older sibling stays for a few photos too!

Babies grow up way too fast so a newborn photo shoot is the perfect way to capture those early moments when Bub is tiny, cute and not yet mobile!

Early one January morning I headed to Red Hill to capture Penelope, a beautiful new arrival who made this job far too easy, and a lot of fun! Her big Sister and Dad stayed for a few family photos before having to dash off to work and daycare, leaving Penelope time for some beautiful solo newborn photos.

A sleeping baby is a photogenic baby and happily Penelope slept for a good portion of her newborn photo shoot! It allowed us to switch backgrounds and poses and meant we spent more time photographing and less time settling!

A good hint for a successful newborn photo shoot is to ensure Bub is well fed and warm when I arrive as this helps baby sleep! It is always nice to get a few open eye photos too (and a smiling photo is the Holy Grail!), but its the sleeping shots that often work best.

We have a great selection of baskets, blankets and wraps, but we always feel it is nice to have some unique touches to your photo shoot so we openly welcome outfits, toys and props. We also travel to you so Bub doesn’t feel unsettled, and it means you have those spare nappies and outfits on hand!
