Redlands Photography: Family Photo Shoot

Location: Wellington Point

Photography in the Redlands is very rewarding indeed – for a start we have countless options for family photo shoot locations, and with plentiful ocean backdrops, Redlands Photography is a must!

I was lucky enough to do a family photo shoot in Wellington Point Park with Greg, Jen and their beautiful daughter Madeleine – the weather was perfect for family photography and Madeleine was an absolute dream to photograph!

It was a gorgeous, clear afternoon with beautiful low sun, which made for some amazing low light shots – check out the reflections and sea view backdrops in these portrait photos!

Wellington Point jetty is a great location for family photo backgrounds – even on a hot and sunny day we can head underneath the jetty for a bit of shade, which helps with squinting and harsh contrasts. We just have to make sure we go at low tide!

The crowning gem is the 400-year old fig trees; they are amazing and it is almost impossible to take a bad family photo there! Redlands Photography is a great hobby and past time but when it happens to be your job too, that has to be a blessing!

Bundaleer Wedding Photography

Wedding Photos: Bundaleer Wedding Photography

Location: Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens, Brookfield

There was nothing about this incredible wedding at Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens that I didn’t adore! I had known Megan and Brandon for a while and knew them to be amazingly friendly and welcoming people, so I knew there would be no dramas on the day. And this magical wedding day went off perfectly! One of the good things about Bundaleer is that you can often use the house behind the property to get ready. Its proximity and amazing light makes an ideal spot for wedding photos!

The only problem when writing a wedding photography blog is that you are forced to leave certain photos out, and as you can see from the length of this blog, I really struggled today!

After photographing the bridesmaids, I headed to Bundaleer itself. I love Bundaleer wedding photography – the venue is such a fantastic place to photograph and the light is always amazing regardless of the weather.

Brandon and the boys were patiently waiting when I got there. Brandon was mildly nervous but excited, and the best man leaving the rings in the wedding car didn’t help! The panic only lasted a few minutes and once the rings were retrieved, it was time for action stations!

Were there tears? Yes! Were there smiles? Yes! It was a perfect ceremony conducted by a family member, and the congratulations afterwards made for some beautifully emotional moments.

Following the family photos, it was time for a wedding photographer’s favourite part of the day! The Bridal Party photos! Bundaleer Rainforest Gardens has some amazing areas for photos and there is no shortage of stunning backdrops. The guys had hired a beautiful car for the day which certainly helped, and with a bridal party as good looking as this, there were never going to be a shortage of photos taken!

Some of the best photos can be taken on the road on the way into Bundaleer so we headed there for some spontaneous, non-posed shots, and again Megan and Brandon were amazing to photograph!

Bundaleer also has a reception room, so we headed there after the photos to party the night away!

Megan had also told me she loved night photography so we sneaked out to grab some awesome shots in the gardens. They turned out to be some of my favourite Bundaleer wedding photos from the whole day! Congratulations guys – your wedding day was perfection!

Kangaroo Point Wedding Photos: Lejla & Ares

Kangaroo Point Wedding Photography: Lejla and Ares

You might recognise Lejla and Ares from a previous post – I was lucky enough to photograph their engagement shoot last year! Happily they invited me back to photograph their Kangaroo Point wedding in January and I was ecstatic that they did! The guys are so easy to work with and so laid back; and yeah – they make my job easy by being very comfortable in front of the camera!

We met at the top of the cliffs and headed straight to the bottom to photograph at one of my favourite places in Brisbane – the little peninsular of rock that juts out into the Brisbane River and rewards the eager wedding photographer with an amazing city backdrop.

We had a great day for wedding photography; slightly overcast but nice and light.

We had an easy wander down river towards the city, stopping for photos and chatting. We ended up at the awesome white wooden pagolas that stick out into the river – another amazing spot for wedding photos. Kangaroo Point is an awesome location for bridal photography as there are so many options and such incredible backdrops. There’s the option of urban wedding photos, rural wedding photos, and rustic wedding photos, so we had a very easy run that day!

And of course it helped that Lejla and Ares were so confident in front of the camera and were so ready to laugh!

We then headed south back towards the cliffs, grabbing some photos amongst the trees and then climbing the ramp back to the top of the cliffs for some great pics in the rotunda. How amazing does Lejla look in her dress with the city through the window?!

I love Kangaroo Point wedding photos; there is such an amazing variety and such an incredible backdrop! I can’t wait to get back there again soon!

And I mst apologise for the long post – I couldn’t decide which Kangaroo Point wedding photos to prioritise! I love them all! Enjoy! And congratulations to Lejla and Ares for an amazing wedding and a fantastic Kangaroo Point Wedding Photography session!

Family Photography at Wellington Point

Location: Wellington Point

Date:23rd February 2017, 6am

I love early morning family photography sessions. No really I do! I have a one year old so I am awake at 5am every day, so I was delighted when Nikita and Simon asked if a 6am family photography session at Wellington Point would be OK. Let’s do this!

It was a beautiful, warm and clear morning, and at that time of day the whole Wellington Point park area was home to a couple of fisherman, and us! We had the place to ourselves and made use of the jetty, park, and amazing sheltered fig tree area – all of which are fantastic locations for family photography!

Happily Nikita and Simon brought along their son Nico, an awesomely friendly little guy who was more than happy to throw a heap of big smiles my way!

The fig trees really are an amazing place for family photography – they make for such a great backdrop and the broad canopy allow us to take photos at any time of day. The amazing views across the bay to Manly and Brisbane city don’t hurt either!

And of course being a peninsular, Wellington Point is surrounded by water, and water always makes for great family photos! And having an early start meant the jetty was free for us to get some great family pictures on!

Wellington Point also has three play parks, which is great as a bribery tactic for kids! We took Nico to go and have a play and to get some spontaneous photos; sometimes these are the best shots from the session!

And then all too quickly the hour was up and we were saying goodbye! It was an awesome family portrait session and a great start to the day! Thanks so much for being so much fun and so relaxed, especially at that time of the morning, and I hope to see you for another family photo session again soon!

Cake Smash Photos: Mia’s 1st Birthday

Being completely honest, the success rate of a cake smash photo shoot isn’t all that high! Quite often the poor child looks on confused, wondering why they are being told to play with food all of a sudden after years of being told that playing with food is wrong! Not Mia! Mia loved it and dived straight in, covering herself in cake and getting a good few mouths full too! And it made for an awesome cake smash photo shoot!

It was quite warm that day but happily Mia’s Mum and dad (Lydia and Anthony) had a Bali hut in their front yard that gave us some shade from the heat, meaning Mia could contrate on the task at hand!

And she didn’t need too much convincing! Even with a good crowd of onlookers, she dived right in and had a blast!

Happily, Mia’s elder sister Eleni was on hand to help when Mia started to flag!

Lydia had sent me through a handful of cake smash photos she had found online and that she would like to capture the feel of – and I have to say the colours and styling that Lydia did was perfect! I adore the colours in these cake smash photos – the pinks and purples work amazingly well!

After fifteen minutes or so, Mia’s belly started to get full and she needed a little rest from her cake smash! So cute!

As Mia started to tire, Eleni, Lydia and Anthony (bravely!) dived in for some family photos!

And then it was time for a quick hose down and a change of clothes for the remainder of the party!

And after an amazingly fun party and highly successful cake smash photo shoot, I headed home with a piece of Mia’s amazing stripey cake that Lydia had made herself! Happy 1st Birthday Mia, and thanks so much for having me capture it!

I just wanted to let you know we’ve received our photos from Mia’s party. And can I just say… I simply cannot put into words how VERY happy I am with them!!! They are amazing! I’ve never had SO many photos returned from a photographer that are all so damn good! So thank you again so very much for helping us create these memories for such a special occasion.

Family Photography: Lisa and Beau

Lisa and Beau had received a gift voucher for a family portrait photography session for Christmas last year and booked in a hour one Sunday morning at Wellington Point. And it was a LOT of fun!

Lisa and Beau’s two beautiful girls – Ariah and Harlow – were fantastic to photograph and loved being the centre of attention for the morning! It helped that it was a glorious day – sunny and not too windy.

The girls were awesome and loved being in front of the camera. The great thing about having family photos at Wellington Point is the variety – we have the jetty, the sea, the beach, the bay, King Island and the amazing fig trees! Oh and the awesome reflections in the rock pools at low tide!

And hilariously the girls loved getting down and dirty amongst the leaves – even scooping some up for a taste! But that’s the great thing about family portrait photography; you can get some nice formal posed shots, and some fun, spontaneous photos too!

And I guess if we get a lot of shots of the girls, we should probably get some of Mum and Dad too! Luckily Lisa and Beau didn’t mind their photo being taken, and the girls were busy eating leaves anyway! Good on you guys!

I absolutely love how this family photo shoot turned out – relaxed, fun and with a great variety of photos. Can’t wait for the next one guys!

Family Photo Shoot: Zsofia and David’s Family Portraits

There’s a big difference between a UK Christmas and a Queensland Christmas and it took me a couple of years to get used to it! Prawns instead of turkey, salad instead of roasties; and mid-thirty temperatures instead of negatives! We spent this last Christmas with the relatives back in Manchester and landed back to a warm and sultry Brisbane day. I wasted no time in getting behind the camera again and met Hungarian-born Zsofia and David at one of my favourite Redlands photo spots; Wellington Point Park.

Zsofia and David brought along their parents to the family photo shoot, but the star of the show was their beautiful daughter Lili. She loved the camera and smiled and flirted for the whole hour!

I always try and get the big family shots first as these tend to be the hardest; getting a full family to smile at the camera at the same time. I needn’t have worried with Lili – she was a legend right from the start! She even allowed me to sit her amongst Wellington Point’s amazing fig tree roots and smiled the whole time! And look at that smile! What a cutie!

Every family photo shoot needs parents and Zsofia and David weren’t camera why either! Thanks so much for making my job so easy, guys!

I always like to get some photos of the kids with each parent too – as a parent of two myself, I rarely get photos of me with the kids!

I tend to think that as a family portrait photographer, having kids definitely helps. I have no problems with making silly noises and pulling silly faces – anything that will get the littlies attention! It usually gets some sympathy giggles from Mum and Dad too!

Is there anything more beautiful in a family photo than the smiles of a newborn?!

And after an awesome session amongst the tree roots, we headed to the jetty for a different flavour. And then all too sudden the hour was over and I headed home to do some editing (and to get over the jetlag!)

Maybe it’s because I’m a Dad that I love doing newborn photography so much! Or maybe it’s just because squishy newborn babies are just so cute and much fun to photograph!

Melissa and Zane emailed me a few weeks ago asking if I was free to photograph their beautiful new arrival – and just how beautiful is she!

And she was so well behaved too! She didn’t mind having a stranger taking baby photos, and even slept most of the time! Melissa did very well and made my job a lot easier well by having the room nice and warm and she had given her beautiful girl a good feed before I got there!

How incredibly beautiful does she look with the make-up brush and Mum’s pearls?!

And this must be the bravest thing I have ever seen! Melissa even brought out her beautiful silk wedding dress for some shots! Happily it remained unharmed!

Melissa and Zane got married a year ago so their wedding rings were brought out for a few photos! What an incredible selection of photographs they will have from this last twelve months: wedding photos and newborn photos! I know I’m biased but I really can’t emphasise the importance of capturing these milestones – having a family portrait photography session once a year really does allow you to look back in years to come and remember more clearly what everyone looked like and how everyone’s changed!

Family Photography: Anna and Scott’s Robelle Domain Family Portrait Photos

Family photography is so much fun, especially when photographing such cuties! It was a bright and sunny winter afternoon when I met Anna and Scott and their gorgeous little girls at Robelle Domain in Springfield. The plan had been to do a larger family photo shoot but unfortunately a couple of the guys weren’t feeling the best but we went ahead anyway, and I am so glad we did!

Robelle Domain is a fantastic location for family photography – actually it’s a fantastic location for families full stop! – with plenty of shade, sun, and things to keep the kids amused!

We started in the nice grassy area down from the bridge – the focus was clearly on the two beautiful girls who smiled and played for the camera and made my job very easy!

We got Mum and dad in a couple of shots (well you gotta, hey?!) and then moved to the stairs behind. Walking all the way of course because we have to test out those legs!

Winters in Brisbane are awesome, and although I have acclimatised to Brisbane’s weather, I still find a 22-degree day pretty good for the coldest time of year! And ideal for lovely family photography!

Robelle Domain is blessed with fantastic family photography photo locations so we grabbed a few shots by the lake and then headed to the shade in the rainforest walk; an awesome wooden walkway that makes for amazing family photos.

The photo shoot went incredibly well and the girls were natural models! And after getting some photos with Mum and then Dad, the family portrait session was all too quickly over! Thanks for a great family photo shoot guys – it was fanastic! Andy

Oh my goodness thank you so much for the photos!! They turned out AMAZING!!! My little one is getting baptised in September/October so if you would like to come and take some photos for us that would be amazing!! Studio Photo Shoot: Tahlia’s Family Photos

Location: At Home in Graceville

Studio photo shoots are great family fun – you get to dress up, look fantastic, have fun and most importantly you get to mess around! Oh and you get some amazing photos at the end of it too!

Tahlia is heading overseas soon (Colombia no less!) and wanted to get some great family photos of her siblings and Mum and Dad so I headed to their place in Graceville with the portable studio on Anzac Day (yes, photographers work when other people don’t!)

The studio shoot was so much fun! We got some individual photos, some photos with Mum and Dad, some group shots and a big photo with each family member in there! Everyone was so excited and keen and we got so much done in a relative amount of time!

Family portraits are also a great way to capture the kids as they grow up – those early years fly by all too quick and capturing some fantastic photos once a year is well worth it; especially if there is always one person stuck behind the camera! Guess who that is in our house!

There is a misconception that studio photo shoots are expensive and time consuming but that doesn’t have to be the case at all – we come to your house and it takes 15 minutes to set up the studio and 10 minutes to bring it down again – all the bit in the middle is for you to play film star and to smile and pose!

Thanks so much for the fun afternoon guys – it really was a lot of fun, and thanks for your enthusiasm and laughter! And have an amazing time in South America, Tahlia! I am very jealous! Andy
